It’s been a great year for Indian advertising so far, where the industry witnessed the most thought provoking campaigns coming together, with new ideas floated, many stereotypes broken and values being given more weightage than the product or service itself.
So without further ado, here are 5 marketing campaigns of 2017 which in our view were successful not only for being creative but also relevant.
Release the pressure- Mirinda
This campaign focused on open letters from teens to their parents talking about the exam pressure. This was an effort to talk about a prevalent social issue of school related pressures young children in India face. Through #ReleaseThePressure the campaign aimed at bridging the gap between parents and teens. The TVCs were heartwarming and conveyed the message in the most pristine manner possible.
Touch of Care- Vicks
The Vicks Brand has stood for Family Care in India for over 50 years. However, with this campaign, #TouchOfCare Vicks turned society’s contemporary notions of family on its head, made a bold statement thus enhancing its brand image. The heartwarming story of an orphan girl and her new found mother also reflected the challenges that a transgender woman has to face in India. Now that’s like killing two birds with one stone!
Make the most of now- Vodafone
This series of ads showed an old couple going for their honeymoon in Goa, and how Vodafone’s strong network helped make their trip more fun and exciting. With this campaign, the brand brought alive the benefits of its 4g Data Strong Network through slice-of-life moments. The campaign was the right blend of the message, values and entertainment.
Mom be a girl again- Amazon
This emotional series of ads brought chills with its unique concept, message and execution. The campaign urged children to help their mothers follow their long lost passion and be a girl again. Along with all the emotional quotient the ads surfaced the insight that on Amazon you’ll get anything and everything that can make you and your family members happy. So again a blend of USP and ESP, the campaign did it’s job successfully.
Bas Paanch Minute Aur- Friends Adult Diapers
Shunning the stigmas around incontinence, this ad takes viewers through a concerned relationship between a grandfather and his grandson.
It was strong enough to stir conversations around an issue that is conveyed in hushed tones.
Not only does it leave the viewer with a smile on their face it also reinforces the message loud and clear.
There’s a pattern that marketers are following these days, i.e trying to deeply connect with the audience. No longer is the conversation about product benefits and features, but it has now graduated in the digital marketing age to telling a story people will relate to.
